Powerful, beefy and hugely spiced this all-Estate, all Syrah bottling from Zaca Mesa is about as good as it gets for under $20. Still youthful this little beast has all the pepper, licorice, black tea and smoky oak lacings you want out of top-tier Domestic Syrah. Long and resonate with plenty of structure to keep this going for at least another 5-7 years this is affordable enough to be your house wine now, or something even better down the road. (Bryan, GTO)

92 Points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine: "Dense and juicy aromas of black currant and plum are lifted by violet and made more complex by a streak of dried meat. Roasted fruit and cocoa flavors sit atop creamy tannins on the sip, which finishes on an array of warm spices." (11/1/2021)

90 points from Jeb Dunnuck: "All Syrah from the estate in Santa Ynez, the 2017 Syrah Clydesdale Estate Vineyard is built along the same lines, with an inky purple color and rather firm, focused aromas and flavors of blue fruits, graphite, ground pepper, and bouquet garni. Nicely concentrated, textured, and balanced on the palate, it has well-managed tannins, good purity, and outstanding length." (8/26/2021)

90 points and One Star from The Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "This incisively varietal wine get good marks for its very keen Syrah definition, yet it is still on the comparatively tight side of things with evident acidity accentuating its otherwise middling tannins and strongly suggesting that a bit more aging is in order. It is reasonably deep and exhibits fine fruity energy with a lengthy, if slightly taut finish, and we recommend that it be set aside for at least a few years with very good prospects for another half-decade of improvement."
