2019 De Martino "Las Olvidadas" Itata Valley Red Blend
13.0
94 Points Decanter Magazine: "This elegant País is actually a field blend with the native San Francisco Criolla grape variety. The nose is filled with wild herbs and meadow flowers, and it is crunchy and juicy on the palate. Made with a gentle, lo-fi vinification using a local bamboo de-stemmer called a zaranda." (4/30/22)
93+ Points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There is a wild and rustic side to the 2019 Las Olvidadas Mezcla Tinta, even more noticeable in the 2020 I also tasted. It comes from their vineyard in Santa Cruz de Guarilihue where the ancient vines of País and San Francisco vines are intermixed in the field. 2019 was a dry vintage in Itata, but they managed to keep the wine at 13% alcohol and with mellow acidity. The grapes fermented together after being hand destemmed with a zaranda destemmer like the traditional Pipeño wines, without any additions. The wine was put in barrel for malolactic and 18 months of aging. It's perfumed and intriguing, light to medium-bodied and with a strong personality. 4,371 bottles and 50 magnums were filled in October 2020." (8/31/21)
93 Points Vinous: "The 2019 Field Blend Old Vine Series Las Olvidadas is a field blend of 80% País and 20% San Francisco from Huarilihue, Itata. Made with no added sulfites from grapes that were hand-pressed and 20% macerated in whole bunches. Maroon in the glass. The aromas include strawberry, kirsch, earth and cherry alongside a little stem. This has the slightly rough tannins one expects from País but delivers a flavorful aftertaste founded in sour cherry aromas." (3/2021)
