The world of Spanish Sidre (cider) is a varied one. Almost all of it delicious but all over the place in style. Those lucky enough to visit the Basque Country may be familiar with the super high acid, sometimes funky, sometimes reeeeealy funky ciders of the region. And some, given the current state of import to the US would think that those are about all Spain has to offer stylistically, that would be wrong. Case in point this bottling from Viuda de Angelon.

Richly textured and almost honeyed at first this unfurls over time in the glass to show tremendous amounts of fruit richness, sherry like nutty/oxidative notes, complex yeasty flavors and pure apply goodness. They call this "Semi-Dry' (it has 0.72 grams of sugar per 187ml "serving", or more our speed 2.88 grams of sugar if you drink the whole bottle----yeahhhh!) I think it is far from the semi-dry style we know here in the states that usually has way more sugar than that, but it does have a richness of fruit that will make you think, "dang, that may be a bit sweet". Trust me, hang with it and you'll be rewarded. (Bryan, GTO)
