2001 Clos Fourtet Saint Emilion Grand Cru (Slightly Nicked and Soiled Label)
95 Points from Decanter Magazine: "Unfairly forgotten after all the media attention from the 2000 vintage, this wine exemplifies finesse even if it may be getting overly earthy. What I like most is its perfume like truffle. While it lacks the excitement of the 2003, this vintage balances freshness and ripe fruit charm. Would go well with mushroom fricassee, shallots and thyme. 3.8pH." (4/18/2023)
94 Points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Clos Fourtet has aged very gracefully, offering up aromas of dark berry fruit mingled with cigar wrapper, rich soil tones and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, layered and supple, it's a seamless, lively wine; and given the refinements that have taken place since, it bodes very well for the evolution of the Derenoncourt-era wines produced at this property." 93 Points from Wine Spectator: "Quite open, with a long, pure beam of gently mulled raspberry and boysenberry fruit, gilded with violet notes and chalky minerality that blossom through a long, refined finish. Cool rather than warm in profile. A wine of seduction. -- Blind '01/'03/'05 Bordeaux retrospective (December 2017). Drink now through 2030. 3,750 cases made." (2/1/2018)
