2012 Marciano Estate "Massiglia" Napa Valley Red Wine

93 Points from Wine Spectator: "Offers up-front notes of smoky, toasty, jazzy oak that balance the mix of graceful red berry, red licorice, anise, spice and mocha flavors. Despite the woody presence, this remains a solid expression of ripe fruit that finishes on the delicate side. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 92 Points from Robert Parker: "The proprietary red wine, the Massiglia, tends to be a blend of about two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, 29-30% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot. These wines see slightly less new oak than the Cabernets (about 61-71%, depending on the vintage). The 2012 Massiglia is a similar blend, but much more open-knit and upfront, while rich and impressive. It offers outstanding depth and ripeness, with loads of black fruit, forest floor, and hints of licorice and barrique. It can be drunk over the next 10-15 years.

Proprietors Maurice and Paul Marciano, the owners of a major jeans company, purchased this property in St. Helena in 2006, with their first harvest 2010. Their main vineyard is directly across from the famous Hayne Vineyard in St. Helena, and their property is farmed by David Abreu.
