Margerum Amaro, California (750ml Bottle)

If you're a wine fan at all you may already know the Margerum name as Doug Margerum and his team have been producing excellent Sauvignon Blanc and Rhone varietal reds from the Central Coast of California for some time. Somewhere along the line Doug got a taste for Amaro and started making his own from a late-harvest and fortified wine based, 12-year old solera system. With 40 different botanicals included to make up the final blend (gentian, angelica, cinchona bark, sage, rosemary, marjoram and mint are just a few) this is an incredibly complex Amaro that can taste different every time you reach for glass. At times I find it incredibly fruity and ripe with bold blueberry tones and at other times much more savory and hebal with unsweetened cocoa bitterness. All in all one of the best Domestic Amaro in the marketplace today. (Bryan, GTO)
