2024 Tatomer "Hinter der Mauer" Central Coast White Blend
12.8
90 Points Vinous: "The 2024 Hinter der Mauer is a 50/50 blend of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Cidery green apple tones open, accented by toasted spice, white flowers and a generous, slightly viscous texture. Eminently crushable and delicious. Before we move on to the next wine in this lineup, Graham Tatomer suggests that the Hinter der Mauer drinks well as a spritzer, so I duly top off the glass with the remainder of my sparkling water. Hey, he's right!
Tatomer is without a doubt one of the most under-the-radar gems in the United States. Though Graham Tatomer’s light, finesse-driven Pinot Noirs are consistently excellent, where he really shines is with white varieties, particularly Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. The 2023 vintage saw Tatomer reaching staggering heights with both, but once again, his magical block of Grüner in John Sebastiano Vineyard turned out what is likely the finest example of the variety this side of the Atlantic. These wines remain ridiculously inexpensive, not only by regional standards but by global ones. Tatomer belongs in the conversation with the big boys." (8/25)
90 Points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2024 Hinter der Mauer is a blend of equal parts Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, offering a delicious and straightforward representation of the profile at Tatomer. The nose melds a green-fruited core with floral, herbal and slightly grassy aromas, followed by a broad, oily palate that remains vibrant and detailed through the finish." (11/6/25)
